MIGHT VS RIGHT [LA FORCE ET LA JUSTICE]

One of the many fundamental absurdities of our human condition exposed by the 17^th century French thinker, Blaise Pascal, is the relationship between might [la force] and right [la justice]. In ideal social systems there is a harmonious relationship between might and right. Might without right is tyranny; but there can be no system without might. And a tyrannical, unfair system is a lesser evil than no system at all.

White supremacy is an unfair, tyrannical system for all non-Whites. The big question, then, is: is it a lesser evil than no system at all? Or, does this very question really beg the question?

THE 1.5/1.5 DEMOCRAT vs. REPUBLICAN TIE-UP

There are supposed to be three branches of government. However, the three are now evenly divided—1.5 to 1.5—between the two major parties. The Democrats control the White House and the Senate, that is, one branch plus half of the second. The Republicans control the Supreme Court and the House, that is, the third branch plus the other half of the second.

Talk about gridlock!   

TWO HORRIFIC ERRORS: IR655 (7/3/88), MH17 (7/17/14)

On July 3, 1988 the U.S. Navy by horrific mistake murdered 290 innocent civilians aboard an unarmed Iran passenger aircraft—Iran Air Flight 655 [IR655] . It was one of those truly tragic errors that occur in the heat of battle. The USS Vincennes was legally positioned in international waters just off the coast of Iran and was part of the task force sent to defend the God given rights of the down-trodden international oil corporations to make a few bucks.

Yesterday, July 17, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 [MH17], with 298 innocent civilians on board was blasted out of the sky. It was one of those truly tragic errors that occur in the heat of battle. The shooters of the missile were legally positioned in their homeland in eastern Ukraine and belonged to a popular army engaged in protecting their native territory from annexation by a central government, which they deem to be illegitimate. 

U.S. MILITARY ONCE SHOT DOWN A PASSENGER JUMBO JET

Yes, we have done it as well. We did it on July 3, 1988 when the crack shots on the ultramodern USS Vincennes shot down an unarmed commercial aircraft sending 290 people to their doom. Yesterday’s horrendous tragedy is, indeed, an unspeakable outrage. But, please spare us all the holier-than-thou stuff.

CHRISTIANITY Is To CHRISTENDOM As POPE FRANCIS is to The U.S. SUPREME COURT

Pope Francis is, of course, Catholic, as are five of the Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court. Pope Francis is a powerful public figure, as are the Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court. When it comes to public policy, Pope Francis takes positions that are clearly consistent with the spirit of Christianity. Fascinatingly, they are consistent with a set of public policy directives issued by Middle Kingdom Egyptian pharaoh to his successor:

“Take care of the people, the flock of the god. It is for their heart that he has made the sky and the earth . . . They are his likenesses, that came from his body . . . When they weep, he is listening. It is for them that he has made rulers … to lift up the back of the needy…For the god knows every name.” (James P. Allen, MIDDLE EGYPTIAN, p. 57)

Pope Francis as a public figure practices a Catholicism that is consistent with Christianity. The majority of the Justices on the U.S. Supreme Court as public figures practice a Catholicism that is consistent with Christendom. What does this say about the separation of church and state?

HOWARD UNIVERSITY VS AFROCENTRICITY

The Howard University upper administration continues its unrelenting campaign to rein in Afrocentric intellectual activity. In 1989, the seemingly president-for-life of the University, one James E. Cheek, was ousted by student activists angered by his opposition to Afrocentricity.

The current interim president of the University is contending for the permanent position. What is his approach to Afrocentricity?

JULY 4TH FOR FREDERICK DOUGLASS

One of the most emphatic formulations of Afrocentricity—when you think about it—is the following passage from a speech give by Frederick Douglass on July 5, 1852, at an event commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence, held at Rochester's Corinthian Hall. “It was biting oratory, in which the speaker told his audience, ‘This Fourth of July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice, I must mourn.’ And he asked them, ‘Do you mean, citizens, to mock me, by asking me to speak to-day?’

Within the now-famous address is what historian Philip S. Foner has called ‘probably the most moving passage in all of Douglass' speeches.’’


What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer; a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sound of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciation of tyrants brass fronted impudence; your shout of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanks-givings, with all your religious parade and solemnity, are to him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy -- a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of the United States, at this very hour.
